My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22
In Proverbs 4:20-22, we are commanded to read the Word of God, the Bible, and to think on it constantly. We are to take the teachings of the Bible and embed them in our hearts. The Word of God is Life and Health.
When I meditate on this verse, I am reminded of how important it is to study the Bible every day. The words of God should be at the front of our thoughts as we go through the day, and applied to every situation.
This verse also tells us that the Word of God is Life and Health! I don’t see how it could get much more important than that!
I know how easy it is to let the days get away from you, and before you know it, days or even weeks have gone by and your Bible hasn’t been touched. You feel disconnected from God when you let this happen, and it seems like nothing goes quite right.
I would like to challenge you to pick a book from the Bible to read, and designate a specific time to study it every day. If you have never studied the Bible before, I would recommend starting with one of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Invest in a study Bible that has notes to help you understand what is being taught.
I like to read from my Bible first thing every morning while I’m having my coffee. Even if it’s just one verse, you will find that you look forward to that special time with God every day. You will be able to better cope with situations throughout the day. Your connection to God and your understanding of his word will get stronger and stronger! You will become more aware of God’s influence and activity in your life. Think on what you studied throughout the day. Find a way to apply it to every day life. You will be amazed at the difference this simple change will make in your life!
